3rd Future Conference of the Maritime Industry of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
The 3rd Future Conference of the Maritime Industry of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be held along with the trade fair Baltic Future on November 19, 2008. The conference is organized by the Department of Economic Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the Maritime Board of the Rostock Chamber of Commerce. The proposed topics of the conference are a perfect supplement to the core themes of the trade fair: Maritime logistics, shipbuilding- and supplier industry as well as offshore wind power.
Rostock Business will commit itself even stronger to offshore wind power. The company has already confirmed both: Cooperation with the Offshore-workshop of the Maritime Future Conference and a presentation at the trade show. Four lectures and a panel discussion will deal with the extension of medium-sized maritime industries in order to come to a linked-up production within complex superstructures for offshore wind power. Topics of high interest such as specific manpower training in the specialized sectors of this branch of industry will also be discussed.
Workshop Science-Port Rostock
The initiative "Science-Port Rostock" intends to hold a half day workshop on the project "Science-Port Rostock – Testing Environment for the Development of Maritime GNSS-based Operations". The initiative of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to launch the project Science-Port Rostock dates back to 2006.
It aims at establishing and operating a testing environment for the development of maritime operations within the application range of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), specifically the European satellite system Galileo. The project is also designed as a field trial of prototypical applications of the Galileo navigation system within the port of Rostock in order to improve maritime operation technologies for an efficient and safety-regulated control of ship traffic and cargo transport.

The Baltic Sea region
With the eastward expansion of the EU, the Baltic Sea became the inland sea of the European Community, and the flow of goods shipped on it from West to East is constantly growing. The economic region of the Baltic Sea, sized 2.4 million sq. km and home of approx. 100 million people, is one of the fastest growing areas of the EU. In particular the exchange of goods with Russia is increasingly carried out on the Baltic Sea. The importance of the international logistic networks both for goods and passenger transport in the Baltic Sea region should not be underestimated.
